Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa has announced a powerful start to 2026, reporting nine new franchise agreements and five successful spa openings in the first quarter. This performance represents the brand’s second-highest number of Q1 signings in five years, reinforcing its position as the fastest-growing spa franchise in North America.

Strategic Expansion and Portfolio Growth

The 650-unit wellness brand continues to see high levels of internal reinvestment, with more than half of the new agreements driven by existing owners. This internal expansion signals strong franchisee confidence in the brand’s $1.4 million average unit volume (AUV) and its membership-driven business model.

Veterans also played a pivotal role in this quarter's growth, accounting for approximately 50% of all signed agreements. These commitments include major deals in the Los Angeles DMA, a region identified by leadership as a high-priority wellness market with significant white space.

"Our first quarter results are a direct reflection of the investments we’ve made in our development team and infrastructure—featuring more talent, new tools and a sharper focus on presenting what makes our brand special to the right candidates."

New Openings and Pipeline Momentum

Translating development deals into operational units, Hand & Stone opened five new locations during the quarter. These spas are now serving communities in Harleysville, Pennsylvania; Millcreek, Utah; Punta Gorda, Florida; Coon Rapids, Minnesota; and Houston Heights, Texas.

The development pipeline remains robust with three new leases signed for locations in Illinois, Florida, and Connecticut. Notably, the upcoming Stamford, Connecticut location marks the entry of new operators into the system, attracted by the brand's accessible luxury positioning.

The Power of the Membership Model

The brand’s success is anchored by a recurring revenue model that provides predictable cash flow for franchisees. In 2025 alone, the system delivered more than 1.6 million facials, which now account for roughly one-third of total systemwide sales.

Strategic partnerships with Dermalogica® and Image Skincare allow owners to offer advanced treatments such as DiamondGlow® and LED therapy. These high-margin services diversify revenue streams beyond traditional massage, positioning the brand as a comprehensive skincare destination.

"When you see existing operators doubling down, veteran entrepreneurs choosing Hand & Stone and meaningful expansion into high-growth markets, it tells you the model is resonating."

Industry Recognition and Future Outlook

The brand's momentum is backed by significant industry accolades, including being named the #1 Massage & Spa Services category leader in the 2026 Entrepreneur Franchise 500. It also holds the top spa franchise spot in the 2025 Franchise Times Top 400.

As Hand & Stone moves through the remainder of 2026, the focus remains on disciplined, strategic growth across its 38-state footprint. With a refreshed development team and a growing demand for professional wellness services, the brand is well-positioned to capitalize on the rapidly evolving global wellness economy.
