The International Franchise Association’s 2026 Annual Convention officially kicked off today under the powerful theme of “Evolve,” and if Day One is any indication, this year’s gathering at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center is already delivering exactly what the franchise community came for: bold ideas, genuine connections, and unstoppable momentum.
From the moment attendees stepped onto the show floor, the energy was electric. IFA President & CEO Matt Haller set the tone with a fresh, engaging “Franchise Tonight!”-style monologue and news segment, joined by outgoing IFA Chair Mary Kennedy Thompson, CFE, CEO of BNI Global. Their lively conversation celebrated franchising’s entrepreneurial roots—likening America’s founding to the ultimate multi-unit brand—while injecting humor, Vegas flair, and sharp strategic insights into unit-level economics, AI, tax certainty, and the power of relationships.
The session featured standout remarks from Greg Flynn, Founder, Chairman & CEO of Flynn Group LP, followed by a compelling fireside chat with Andrew T. Cathy, Chief Executive Officer of Chick-fil-A. The energy peaked with a powerhouse keynote from Daymond John, Founder & CEO of FUBU and The Shark Group, whose stories of resilience and smart scaling left the audience inspired and ready to take on the next era of franchising.
The celebration continued as the IFA honored two franchise legends:
Greg Flynn received the prestigious Hall of Fame Award for his extraordinary contributions and leadership.
Len Fischer, Founder and Chairman of Benetrends Financial, was named Entrepreneur of the Year for pioneering ethical funding solutions that have helped thousands of franchisees launch and grow.
As the gavel passed from outgoing Chair Mary Kennedy Thompson to incoming Chair Sam Ballas, the room erupted in applause—a symbolic and emotional moment marking the seamless leadership transition that will guide the association forward.
The day wrapped on an even higher note as Franchise Main Street came alive in the Exhibit Hall.
