New SA Franchise Brokers to Fight Unemployment via Expert Guidance
Discover how new SA franchise brokers are fighting unemployment. Learn how expert guidance connects entrepreneurs to top brands to create jobs and grow the economy.
A fresh group of candidates from across South Africa has officially begun their journey into the world of franchising through the latest Global Franchise Brokers training programme. Drawn from a variety of professional backgrounds and regions, the participants share a common ambition: to play a meaningful role in connecting entrepreneurs with franchise opportunities that genuinely fit their goals, resources, and expectations.
The opening sessions focused on building a clear understanding of what franchising truly represents. Rather than being positioned simply as a sales channel, the broker’s role was framed as that of a guide and advisor — someone responsible for helping prospects navigate an often complex landscape of brands, models, and financial commitments.
Central to the discussions was the principle of guidance without pressure. Trainees explored the ethical and professional standards expected of brokers, with strong emphasis placed on never pushing a prospect toward a particular brand. Instead, the process revolves around listening carefully, assessing suitability, and ensuring alignment between the individual and the franchise system under consideration.
“These brokers are more than introducers to business opportunities. Every franchise they help establish means one more entrepreneur has been established and many more local jobs will be created in the local area. We are going to make a dent in the unemployment rate in SA, one franchise unit at a time.” - Aamena Abed
Managing expectations emerged as another critical theme. Franchise recruitment can sometimes be clouded by optimism or misunderstanding, particularly among first-time business owners. The programme highlighted the importance of honest conversations around investment levels, operational demands, lifestyle implications, and potential risks. Participants were encouraged to see expectation management not as a barrier, but as a foundation for long-term success and healthier franchisor–franchisee relationships.
Perhaps the most significant takeaway from the early training modules was the concept of fit. A franchise, attendees were reminded, is not automatically the right choice for every candidate — and even when it is, not every brand is suitable for every investor. Factors such as personality, skills, financial capacity, and personal objectives all play a defining role.
Industry Perspective
Reflecting on the broader impact of the programme, Sean Goldsmith highlighted the significance of the broker’s role beyond individual transactions:
As the training progresses, the cohort will move deeper into areas such as franchise economics, disclosure documentation, brand evaluation, and candidate assessment. For many in the room, this marks the beginning of a new professional chapter within a sector that continues to attract growing interest in South Africa.
With another intake now underway, Global Franchise Brokers continues to expand its footprint by developing brokers equipped not only with technical knowledge, but with the judgement and integrity required to guide future franchisees responsibly.
